The Three Brave Warriors

Japanese: 肉弾三勇士 - にくだんさんゆうし

A heroic military tale from the Shanghai Incident. Also known as the Three Bombing Heroes. On February 22, 1932, during the battle of Miaoxing Town in Shanghai, three privates from the engineering corps, Takeji Eshita, Tasuku Kitagawa, and Inosuke Sakue, rushed into the city with explosives-loaded explosives in their hands to destroy barbed wire fences, but failed to survive and died in the explosion. However, the army considered the accident to be a deliberate suicide, and the three were to be honored as "military gods." The newspapers also ran a campaign to promote the story as a heroic military tale, calling it the "epictures of tragic loyalty." As a result, the incident caused a huge sensation, and the Asahi Shimbun and Mainichi Shimbun ran contests to submit songs about the three heroes, and condolence money was sent to the bereaved families through newspapers from all over the country.

上海事変下の軍事美談。爆弾三勇士ともいう。1932年2月22日，上海廟行鎮の戦闘で工兵隊一等兵の江下武二･北川丞･作江伊之助の3名が鉄条網破壊のため爆薬を装てんした破壊筒を抱いて突入，生還に失敗し爆死した。しかし陸軍はこの事故を覚悟の自爆であるとし，3名を〈軍神〉として顕彰する方針をとり，新聞も〈悲壮忠烈の極〉などと軍事美談としてキャンペーンをくりひろげた。そのため，この事件は一大センセーションをまきおこし，《朝日新聞》《毎日新聞》によって三勇士の歌が懸賞募集されたり，全国から新聞社を通じて遺族へ弔慰金が寄せられた。
