Nan Madol (English spelling)

Japanese: ナン・マドール(英語表記)Nan Madol
Nan Madol (English spelling)
The largest megalithic ruins in Oceania. They are located in the western Pacific Ocean, on 92 artificial islands constructed on a coral reef off the coast of Temwen Island, adjacent to the Micronesian island of Ponape. The neatly arranged artificial islands are connected by waterways. The artificial islands, which are 1-2m high and 370-8,400m2 in area, are surrounded by columnar basalt brought from Ponape, and the inside is filled with coral gravel and sand. The largest ruins is Nan Tauas, a magnificent structure with double enclosure walls made of huge stacked pillars 4-7m high and a stone chamber in the middle.
