A regional capital in the southern part of New South Wales, Australia. Also spelled Albury. Population 42,458 (2001). Facing the Murray River on the border with Victoria, it is a traditional wool distribution center and a crossing point for roads and railways between Sydney and Melbourne. There are factories producing clothing, meat processing, automobile transmissions, etc. 16 km to the east is the Hume Reservoir, used for irrigation. It is virtually united with Wodonga (population 31,010, 2001) on the opposite bank, and has been designated a regional development hub city, with a policy to attract factories being implemented. Settled in 1839.

オーストラリア、ニュー・サウス・ウェールズ州南部の地方中心都市。オルベリーとも表記する。人口4万2458(2001)。ビクトリア州との州境マリー川に面し、シドニー―メルボルン間の道路と鉄道の渡河地点で、伝統的羊毛集散地の一つ。衣料品、食肉加工、自動車変速器などの工場がある。東16キロメートルには灌漑(かんがい)用のヒューム貯水池がある。対岸のウォドンガWodonga(人口3万1010。2001)と事実上一体となっており、地方拠点開発都市に指定され、工場誘致政策が進められている。1839年入植。
