Ihara Saikaku's Ukiyo-zoshi. Published in January 1687 (Jokyo 4) by Fukaeya ​​Tarobei in Osaka and Yamazakiya Ichibei in Kyoto. Eight volumes, ten books. The first half, from volumes one to four, is largely based on the world of Shudo in samurai society, telling the strange fates of people who sacrifice themselves for Shudo principles. From volume five onwards, he focuses on the Kabuki world, which was popular at the time, and provides interesting Kabuki stories, as is typical of Saikaku, who was a theater enthusiast. This work develops the subject matter of Ukiyo-zoshi widely, combining stories of heroic men with the dark side of the glamorous Kabuki world, and is a work that attempts to depict the story in a wide range of ways, making full use of his expert information network.

井原西鶴(さいかく)の浮世草子。1687年（貞享4）1月、大坂・深江屋太郎兵衛、京都・山崎屋市兵衛より刊行。八巻10冊。巻一から巻四までの前半部分は、武家社会の衆道(しゅどう)の世界に取材したものが多く、衆道の義理に殉ずる人間たちの数奇な運命が語られている。巻五以降は、当時流行の歌舞伎(かぶき)社会に取材し、いかにも演劇通であった西鶴らしく、興味ある歌舞伎話を提供している。浮世草子の題材を幅広く展開させ、壮烈な男たちの物語と艶冶(えんや)な歌舞伎社会の裏面とを組み合わせて、得意の情報網を駆使しながら縦横に描き上げようとした作品である。
