Koyadaira [village] - Koyadaira

Japanese: 木屋平[村] - こやだいら
Koyadaira [village] - Koyadaira
A village in Mima District, southwest Tokushima Prefecture. In 1973, it was incorporated into Mima District from Oe District. Population 1,505 (1995). It occupies the upper reaches of the Anabuki River, a tributary of the Yoshino River. Since ancient times, the route of communication with the Yoshino River basin did not follow the steep Anabuki River, but instead went from Ichihana to Hiuchi-no-Kubo Pass to Kawamata to Taneno Pass to Yamase. It was the home base of the Awa mountain warriors, who are the source of many legends, and many documents from the Middle Ages are still preserved today. Agriculture and forestry are the main industries, and the area is known for its special products such as plums, yuzu, tea, and shiitake mushrooms. Livestock is also raised, and there is a village-run amago trout farm in Kyudo.
