A former town in Minaminaka District, southern Miyazaki Prefecture. Facing the Hyuga Nada Sea, including Okino-Oshima Island. The town is primarily involved in agriculture and fishing, with tuna and bonito fishing thriving in Tonoura and Meitsu. The Nichinan Line runs through the town. In March 2009, it was incorporated into Kitago Town, Minaminaka District, and Nichinan City. Area: 63.17 km2 . 宮崎県南部,南那珂(みなみなか)郡の旧町。日向灘(ひゅうがなだ)に面し,沖の大島を含む。農漁業が主で,外浦(とのうら),目井津(めいつ)を中心にマグロ・カツオ漁が盛ん。日南線が通じる。2009年3月南那珂郡北郷町と日南市へ編入。63.17km2。1万1614人(2005)。
