Okuzo Gold Mine

...In the early modern period, Ogida, the center of the area, flourished as a river port on the Yoneshiro River, where cedar wood from the surrounding area was collected and distributed, and Sansai City was established. The Okuzo Gold Mine, which opened at the end of the Sengoku period, continued mining until the mid-Meiji period. The area is a leading rice-growing region, having produced the top rice-growing farm in Japan for two consecutive years in 1959 and 1960, but since the 1970s, due to production adjustments, tobacco and hop cultivation has become popular.
