Nardini - Pietro Nardini

Italian violinist and composer. After studying under Tartini in Padua from 1734 to 1740, he was active in his hometown of Livorno, but from 1762 to 1765 he was a member of the Stuttgart court orchestra, and in 1769 he became the head orchestra of the Florence court orchestra, a position he held until his death there in 1793. He left behind many violin concertos, trio sonatas, and violin sonatas, but was a virtuoso violinist known especially for the beauty of his cantabiles. Leopold Mozart praised his violin playing for "the beauty, purity, and uniformity of the sound."
