...Various timbres are created by using a sound source with strings stretched in front of a speaker, and many compositions use this instrument. In 1924, German acoustician Friedrich Trautwein (1888-1956) invented the Trautonium, which used a low-frequency oscillator with a sawtooth wave, and unveiled it in 1930. After World War II, it was extensively modified to enable polyphonic and complex sound synthesis, and became known as the Mixtur Trautonium, becoming the forerunner of the electronic organ.
