An old town in Date County in the eastern part of the Fukushima Basin in northern Fukushima Prefecture. The city center developed as a stopover point on the Oshu Kaido road, and the Tohoku Main Line runs through it. Fruit cultivation, such as apples and peaches, is thriving. There are steel, food, and textile factories. Bordering Fukushima City, urbanization is progressing. In January 2006, it merged with Yanagawa Town, Hobara Town, Ryozen Town, and Tsukidate Town in Date County to become a city, Date City. 9.22 km2 . Population 10,958 (2003). 福島県北部,福島盆地東部の伊達郡の旧町。中心市街は奥州街道の合の宿として発達,東北本線が通じる。リンゴ,モモなどの果樹栽培が盛ん。鉄鋼,食品,繊維などの工場がある。福島市に接し都市化が進む。2006年1月,伊達郡梁川町,保原町,霊山町,月舘町と合併し市制,伊達市となる。9.22km2。1万958人(2003)。
