Date [town] - Date
An old town in Date County in the eastern part of the Fukushima Basin in northern Fukushima Prefecture. The city center developed as a stopover point on the Oshu Kaido road, and the Tohoku Main Line runs through it. Fruit cultivation, such as apples and peaches, is thriving. There are steel, food, and textile factories. Bordering Fukushima City, urbanization is progressing. In January 2006, it merged with Yanagawa Town, Hobara Town, Ryozen Town, and Tsukidate Town in Date County to become a city, Date City. 9.22 km2 . Population 10,958 (2003).
