Lead glass - namarigarasu (English spelling) lead glass

This refers to glass that contains lead oxide. Flint glass belongs to this category (due to the fact that flint (flint) was used as a raw material for silicate when lead glass was first produced). Lead glass has high electrical insulation and a high refractive index, and is easy to mold at high temperatures and polish at room temperature, so it is widely used as electrical insulation in parts of lamps, as optical glass with a high refractive index, and for crafts, especially as crystal glass for cutting. However, despite its excellent electrical and optical properties, it is gradually being replaced by other glasses due to the toxicity of lead.

酸化鉛を含有するガラスをいう。フリントガラスはこれに属する（鉛ガラスの生産の当初、ケイ酸原料として燧石(ひうちいし)〈フリント〉を使ったことによる）。鉛ガラスは電気絶縁性、屈折率がともに高く、また高温における成形性、常温における研摩加工性ともに優れているので、電気絶縁用として管球の一部に、高屈折率用の光学ガラスとして、また工芸用、とくにカットを施すクリスタルガラスとして広く用いられている。しかし、優れた電気的・光学的特性にもかかわらず、鉛の毒性のために、ほかのガラスに徐々に置き換えられている。
