Naphthalenol. C 10 H 8 O(144.17). C 10 H 7 OH. There are two isomers, 1- and 2-naphthol. Both are produced by melting the corresponding naphthalenesulfonic acid in an alkali. 1-naphthol is a sublimable columnar crystal with a melting point of 96 °C and a boiling point of 280 °C. 2-naphthol is a sublimable phyllodes with a melting point of 123 °C and a boiling point of 286 °C. Both are easily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, and benzene, but are poorly soluble in water. They dissolve well in aqueous alkali hydroxide solutions as alkaline salts, and turn brown when exposed to light. When naphthol is heated to 350-400 °C in a sealed tube, two molecules undergo dehydration condensation to produce 1- or 2-dinaphthyl ether. They are used as synthetic raw materials for dyes, fragrances, and medicines. Source: Morikita Publishing "Chemical Dictionary (2nd Edition)" Information about the Chemical Dictionary 2nd Edition |
naphthalenol.C10H8O(144.17).C10H7OH.1-および2-ナフトールの2種類の異性体がある.
