A desert in the northern inland part of Saudi Arabia. It is also called the Nefud Desert. It stretches 290 km from east to west and 230 km from north to south, covering an area of 64,000 square kilometers. It is widely covered with sand dunes, and sandstorms are frequent. During the rainy season from winter to early spring, grass sprouts, and it becomes a grazing ground for some Bedouins (nomads) who migrate from Jordan and Iraq. A caravan route runs through it between Al-Jawf in the northwest and Hail in the southeast. [End line] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
