1802‐72 German journalist. Pen name Ludolf Vineta. Born in Altona. In 1833, he gave an intensive course on modern literature as a private lecturer at the University of Kiel, and published the notes of those lectures in 1834, dedicated to the Young Germans, in which he dedicated his book The Conquest of Aesthetics. This book, which positioned "prose as a weapon" as the most important literary genre, became the theoretical backbone of their "literary revolution" movement. Repeated bans and exiles forced him into a state of flux, and he eventually fell into mental illness and died in Schleswig. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
