The name comes from the use of seven twisted threads in the warp and weft, and it is also written as "Nanakoori." It is also said to be written as "Urakoori" because the surface of the fabric looks like fish eggs, and as the threads are woven side by side, it is also written as "Namikoori." It is also called matt weave, basket weave, and hopsack weave. Originally a type of silk fabric, Kyo-shashi, Bushu-shashi (Kawagoe-shashi, Hanno-shashi), Kiryu-shashi, Shinshu-sarashina, Echigo-Gosen, and Gifu-Kawashima were famous in the past. It was mainly used for haori and kimono fabric, but is no longer seen today. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
