[2][1] A place name in central Miyagi Prefecture. Masuda, the central area, flourished as a post station between Iwanuma and Nakata on the Oshu Kaido during the Edo period. Yuriage, at the mouth of the Natori River, is an old fishing port. Sendai Airport is located across from Iwanuma City to the south. It was incorporated as a city in 1958. [2] It was a district in the central-southern part of Miyagi Prefecture. After 1958 , it was integrated into Natori, Iwanuma, and Sendai City, and disappeared in 1988.

[1] 〘名〙 (「などり」とも)① その名が多くの人に知られること。評判が高いこと。有名であること。名高いこと。また、その人。なうて。名代(なだい)。※虎明本狂言・神鳴(室町末‐近世初)「まかりくだって、上手の名どりをいたさうずると存」② 音曲・舞踊などを習う人が、師匠・家元から、芸名を許されること。また、その人。※人情本・春色辰巳園(1833‐35)四「何所の宅か知らねども、杵や何某(なにがし)が名取(ナトリ)の妙音、彼の古き唱哥、紅葉狩」[2][一] 宮城県中部の地名。中心地区の増田は江戸時代奥州街道の岩沼と中田の間の宿駅として栄えた。名取川河口の閖上(ゆりあげ)は古くからの漁港。南の岩沼市にまたがって仙台空港がある。昭和三三年(一九五八)市制。[二] 宮城県の中南部にあった郡。昭和三三年(一九五八)以降、名取・岩沼・仙台市に統合編入され、同六三年消滅。
