A perennial plant of the Brassicaceae family (APG classification: Brassicaceae). The entire plant is glabrous. The roots are white and strong. The stems are roughly branched and reach a height of 20-40 cm. The leaves are alternate, oblanceolate or oblong-lanceolate, 6-15 cm long, blunt, with pinnate or irregularly serrated edges. The base narrows to form a petiole, which embraces the stem like an ear. From May to November, the 4-6 cm racemes are borne at the ends of the branches, with spatula-shaped yellow petals 3 mm long and slightly longer than the calyx. The siliques are linear, about 2 cm long, and the style is thick and short. It is a weed that grows in fields and roadsides throughout Japan, and is also distributed in Korea, China, and India. There are about 70 species in this genus worldwide, and 5 species in Japan.
