[Yukio Hattori] III(1810-1847) Son of Nakamura Tozo II. Stage name: Kagaya. Adopted by Nakaemon III, he took the stage name Shikan III from Nakamura Tsurusuke II in January 1836 (Tenpo 7). He was a leading actor who excelled in wajitsu and was also excellent in shosa. [Yukio Hattori] IV(1830-1899) Born in Osaka. His stage name was Narikoma-ya. He was adopted by Utaemon IV and went to Edo, where he took the stage name Shikan IV in July 1860 (Man'en 1). He subsequently became the head of the Morita-za theatre and worked as a senior actor to Ichikawa Danjuro IX and Onoe Kikugoro V. However, due to his old-fashioned and rough style of acting, he was unable to ride the wave of modernising Kabuki and in his later years he often appeared in second-rate theatres. In 1989 (Heisei 1), he was awarded the Medal with Purple Ribbon, became a member of the Japan Art Academy, and was recognized as a Holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure) in 1996. In 2006, he was named a Person of Cultural Merit. His eldest son is Nakamura Fukusuke 9 (1960- ), and his second son is Nakamura Hashinosuke 3 (1965- ).
