(1830-1899) Born in Osaka. His stage name was Narikoma-ya. He was adopted by Utaemon IV and went to Edo, where he took the stage name Shikan IV in July 1860 (Man'en 1). He subsequently became the head of the Morita-za theatre and worked as a senior actor to Ichikawa Danjuro IX and Onoe Kikugoro V. However, due to his old-fashioned and rough style of acting, he was unable to ride the wave of modernising Kabuki and in his later years he often appeared in second-rate theatres.
