Haplotaxis gordioides

Japanese: ナガミミズ（英語表記）Haplotaxis gordioides

An annelid of the Oligochaete family Luciferidae. It is so named because of its long and slender body. It is an earthworm that lives in groundwater and is found in water systems that lead to deep artesian wells and springs. It is known from Sapporo and Osaka Prefecture in Hokkaido in Japan, and has also been reported from Europe, North America, Siberia, and other places. Based on the number of gonads, the location they occupy, and other characteristics, it is thought that the Luciferidae is close to the ancestral form of earthworms that has survived to the present day. It is very long and slender, with a body length of 30 cm and a body width of 1 to 2 mm. It is white with a pale pink or light brown tinge, and consists of more than 200 body segments.

貧毛綱ナガミミズ科の環形動物。体が細長いのでこの名がある。地下水にすむミミズで，深い掘抜井戸や泉に続く水系に発見される。日本では北海道の札幌と大阪府から知られており，またヨーロッパ，北アメリカ，シベリアなどからも報告されている。生殖巣の数とそれが占める部位，その他の形質からナガミミズはミミズの祖先形に近いものが現在まで生き残ったものと考えられる。体長30cm，体幅1～2mmで非常に細長い。淡紅色や淡褐色を帯びた白色で，200以上の体節からなる。
