This old town is located in Higashiyatsushiro District, central Yamanashi Prefecture. It occupies the left bank of the Fuefuki River and the northern slope of the Misaka Mountains. The town's name comes from Nakamichi, another name for the Ubaguchi Highway that once passed through the area. The Chuo Expressway passes through the town. In addition to sericulture, the town is also known for the cultivation of peaches, pears, grapes and other fruit trees, as well as vegetables. In March 2006, it was incorporated into the northern part of Kamikuishiki Village, Nishiyatsushiro District, and Kofu City. 21.02 km2 . 5,641 people (2003). 山梨県中央部,東八代(ひがしやつしろ)郡の旧町。笛吹川左岸と御坂山地の北斜面を占める。町名はかつてこの地を通っていた右左口(うばぐち)街道の別称である中道に由来。中央自動車道が通じる。養蚕を行うほか,モモ,ナシ,ブドウなどの果樹,蔬菜の栽培が盛ん。2006年3月西八代郡上九一色村北部と甲府市へ編入。21.02km2。5641人(2003)。
