The Jiashu technique probably began in China, and there are various remains of vessels and tableware from the Han Dynasty, such as the Jiashu coffin from the Western Han Dynasty excavated in Yanggaoxian, Shanxi Province, and the Jiashu ear cup from the 21st year of the Jianwu era in the Eastern Han Dynasty (45) excavated in Lelang. The first documented appearance of Jiashu statues was before 395 in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, when five Jiashu Xing statues were made at Zhaoyin Temple (Fayuan Zhulin, etc.). There are many documents that report on the making of statues after that, and in 628 during the Tang Dynasty, six life-size Jiashu statues of Emperor Gaozu were made at Longtian Temple on Mount Zhongnan (Fayuan Zhulin).

　夾紵技法はおそらく中国で始まり，すでに漢代には山西省陽高県出土の前漢の夾紵棺，楽浪出土の後漢建武21年(45)の夾紵耳杯などさまざまな容器や飲食器の遺例がある。夾紵像の文献上の初見は東晋395年以前に，招隠寺に夾紵行像五軀が作られたという(《法苑珠林》ほか)。その後造像を伝える文献は多く，唐代628年には終南山竜田寺に高祖の等身夾紵像六軀が作られたという(《法苑珠林》)。…
