Japanese: イヌウラジロ（英語表記）cliff brake

Genus name of evergreen perennial fern in the Capillaria family. In a broad sense, it is a collective name for about 80 species found mainly in the New World, Oceania, Africa, etc., many of which are cultivated as ornamental plants. In a narrow sense, it refers to P. henryi Christ from Taiwan, but since this species has recently been included in the separate genus Mildella , the 80 or so species referred to here are sometimes referred to as Perlaea, which is the scientific name of the genus. In the broad sense, Perlaea usually has glossy, dark brown petioles, is unipinnate to bipinnately or tripinnately compound, and is small and cute.

ホウライシダ科の常緑多年生シダ植物の属名。広い意味では，新大陸，オセアニア，アフリカなどを中心に産する約80種のものの総称で，観葉植物として栽培されるものが多い。狭義では台湾産のP.henryi Christを指すが，本種は近年は別属のMildellaに含められるので，ここでいう約80種は，属の学名をそのまま読んでペルラエアと呼ばれることもある。広義のペルラエアには，葉柄が通常暗褐色で光沢があり，単羽状から2～3回羽状複生，小型で愛らしいものが多い。
