Nagasaki Road

Japanese: 長崎路 - ながさきじ
Nagasaki Road
A modern trunk road in Kyushu, also known as the Nagasaki Kaido. It is a side road that runs from Buzen Dairi through 14 post towns, including Kokura, Chikuzen Kurosaki, Hizen Tashiro, Hizen Todoroki, Kanzaki, Saga, Ushio, Oda, Isahaya, and Yagami, to Himi in the Shogunate territory, and finally to Nagasaki. It is believed to have been established after the 1610s, and after the isolationist order, it was developed and prospered as the passage of the Nagasaki magistrate, Shogunate officials, various feudal lords, domestic and foreign writers and merchants increased. Within the Saga domain, it was divided into three routes. According to the German physician Kaempfer, who stayed in Nagasaki, the road was clean, the road was covered with new sand, and it was "as good a road as one could hope for."
