Köroǧlu (English spelling)

Köroǧlu (English spelling)
The Turkic national epic poem was widely handed down in Turkey, Azerbaijan and Central Asia in the 17th century. It inherits Turkic heroic legends such as the Oghuzname, the legend of the Turk's founder, and its Islamized version, the Book of Dede Korkut. The current Turkish version has a motif of the son Köruoglu avenging his father, who was blinded by an evil magistrate for a trivial matter, but Köruoglu is widely loved as a righteous thief who sides with the people and puts an end to bad government.
