Red jade stone
Also known as Akadama. A red jasper, it is a blood-red color caused by impure chalcedony and large amounts of iron oxide in massive quartz. It is prized as a garden stone, ornamental stone, and precious stone. The best quality comes from Iwakubi in Sado (Sado City), but it is also found in Imakane, Hokkaido, Toi, Shizuoka Prefecture, Fukumitsu, Toyama Prefecture, and other places.

赤玉とも。赤色の碧玉(へきぎょく)で，不純な玉髄質の塊状石英に多量の酸化鉄が含まれて血赤色を呈するもの。庭石・飾石・貴石として珍重される。佐渡の岩首（佐渡市）産が最も良質だが，北海道今金，静岡県土肥，富山県福光等でも産する。
