Ton That Thuyet

A Vietnamese politician of the anti-French resistance in the late 19th century. Dates of birth and death unknown. Born into a member of the Nguyen family of the Vietnamese royal family, he held real power in the Hue royal court as Minister of Personnel and Minister of War in the 1880s. When Emperor Tu Duc died in 1883, he deposed the eldest son and supported Hiep Hoa, Kien Phuc, and Ham Nghi in succession. In 1885, when French commander de Courcy arrived in Hue based on the Treaty of Hue the previous year, he supported Ham Nghi and attacked him, and then fled with the emperor to the central mountain region, where he proclaimed a loyal decree to the whole country and called for the Van Thanh class to rise up.

19世紀後半，ベトナムの反仏抵抗派の政治家。生没年不詳。ベトナム王室グエン(阮)氏の一族に生まれ，1880年代に吏部尚書，兵部尚書としてフエ王廷の実権を握った。1883年，トゥドゥック(嗣徳)帝の死に際して，皇長子を廃してヒエップホア(協和)，キエンフック(建福)，ハムギ(咸宜)の諸帝を次々に擁立した。85年，前年のフエ条約に基づき，フランス軍司令官ド･クールシーがフエに到着するや，ハムギ帝を擁してこれを攻撃し，さらに帝とともに中部山岳地帯に避難して天下に勤王の詔を宣布，バンタン(文紳)層の決起を呼びかけた。
