…German pianist and composer of Polish origin. He studied in Dresden and Berlin, and made his debut as a pianist in Berlin in 1873. Afterwards, he toured Germany, France, and Poland, and gained fame. As a composer, he excelled in small salon pieces such as piano piece "Spanish Dances," but he also wrote the opera "Boabdil" (1892), the symphonic poem "Joan of Arc," an orchestral suite, a violin concerto, and a piano concerto. His brother Alexander M. (1851-1934) was a music critic active in Berlin. …

…ポーランド出身のドイツのピアノ奏者，作曲家。ドレスデン，ベルリンで学び，1873年ベルリンでピアノ奏者としてデビューしたのち，ドイツ，フランス，ポーランドに演奏旅行して名声を博した。作曲家としては，ピアノ曲《スペイン舞曲》などのサロン用の小品にすぐれているが，そのほかにもオペラ《ボアブディル》(1892)，交響詩《ジャンヌ･ダルク》，管弦楽組曲，バイオリン協奏曲，ピアノ協奏曲などを書き残している。なお，兄アレクサンダーAlexander M.(1851‐1934)はベルリンで活躍した音楽評論家である。…
