The Armagnacs are the Armagnacs

The Armagnacs are the Armagnacs

A faction of French nobles formed during the Hundred Years' War. Armagnac is the name of a French territory at the northern foot of the Pyrenees. In the early 15th century, the French royal family, the House of Valois, was dominated by the conflict between Louis, Duke of Orléans, the king's younger brother, and his cousin, Jean, Duke of Burgundy. In 1407, Jean murdered Louis. The nobles hostile to Jean formed a party led by Bernard, Count of Armagnac, the father-in-law of Louis' son Charles, and opposed the Burgundian faction. After 1410, the situation developed into civil war, and after the Battle of Azincourt (1415), the Armagnacs assassinated John and established a government in Bourges on the Loire River under the deposed Dauphin Charles (later Charles VII). They then came into conflict with the House of Valois, which had united with the House of England under the leadership of the House of Burgundy.
