Torii Tadamasa

He was a fudai daimyo (feudal lord) during the Azuchi-Momoyama and early Edo periods. His father, Mototada, had been a close aide to Tokugawa Ieyasu since Mikawa. His mother was the daughter of Matsudaira Satsuma no Kami Iehiro. His childhood name was Shintaro, Sakyo no Jo, and he was ranked as Junior Fourth Rank. For his meritorious service in the Battle of Sekigahara, he was awarded 120,000 koku of Iwakidaira Domain (Fukushima Prefecture) in Mutsu. Furthermore, when Mogami Yoshitoshi (570,000 koku), the lord of Yamagata Domain, was stripped of his title in 1622 (Genwa 8), his estates were distributed among various daimyo, and he was assigned to the central Yamagata Domain (220,000 koku) to control the eastern provinces. The land survey carried out within the domain in 1626 was the first actual land survey of the region, and is famous as the "Sakyo Rope." 安土桃山・江戸前期の譜代大名。父元忠は三河以来の徳川家康の側近。母は松平薩摩守家広の娘。幼名新太郎,左京亮,従四位下。関ケ原戦の論功によって,陸奥の岩城平藩(福島県)12万石が与えられた。また山形藩主最上義俊(57万石)が改易処分となった元和8(1622)年,その遺領が諸大名に分与された中で,その中心山形藩(22万石)に東国の押さえとして配された。領内に実施した9年の検地は,この地方最初の実測検地で,「左京縄」として有名。寺領を圧迫したため,忠政は山寺ののろいによって祈り殺されたとの説もある。<参考文献>『山形市史』中
