Truss (English spelling)

Truss (English spelling)
It is a fine-grained, porous, unlaminated tuff, consisting mainly of small hydrated fragments of trachytic, vitreous pumice. The name comes from the deposits in the Laacher See area of Germany. Leonhard thought that the trusses were formed from water-borne volcanic debris [Leonhard: 1823]. Wölzing suggested that they were formed by mudflows accompanied by hot clouds (nuee ardente) [Voelzing: 1907]. It is used in the cement industry.
It is a type of pozzolan, a representative example of which is a type of pumiceous volcanic ash tuff found in the lower reaches of the Rhine River. This name is the name of a region in Italy, and it was originally found in the valleys of the Brohl and Nette rivers, tributaries of the Rhine. Most of the silica contained in truss is amorphous, and it easily combines with CaO that is liberated when water is added to Portland cement or with CaO in plaster to form a cement, so it is also used as a cement admixture [Katayama et al.: 1970].
