Tome [town] - Toyoma

Japanese: 登米[町] - とよま

A former town in Tome County in northern Miyagi Prefecture. The Kitakami River flows south, with most of the land flat in the west and mountainous areas in the east. Tome, the main settlement on the riverbank, developed as a castle town for the Shiraishi clan, a branch of the Date clan, and samurai residences remain. The town produces a lot of rice, and is known for its miso, soy sauce, and traditional pine cone wind chimes. It also produces slate for roof tiles. In April 2005, it merged with Sako Town, Towa Town, Nakata Town, Toyosato Town, Yoneyama Town, Ishigoe Town, and Minamikata Town in Tome County, and Tsuyama Town in Motoyoshi County, to become a city, Tome City. ^{45.67 km2} . 6,034 people (2003).

宮城県北部，登米(とめ)郡の旧町。北上川が南流，西部は平坦地が多く，東部は山間地帯。河岸の主集落登米は伊達氏の一族白石氏の城下町として発達，武家屋敷が残る。米を多産し，みそ，醤油，伝統的な松笠風鈴の特産がある。屋根瓦用のスレートも産する。2005年４月登米郡迫町，東和町，中田町，豊里町，米山町，石越町，南方町，本吉郡津山町と合併し市制，登米市となる。45.67km²。6034人（2003）。
