Located in the southeastern part of Aichi Prefecture, facing Mikawa Bay to the west and the Enshu Sea to the south, Toyohashi City occupies the Toyohashi Plain. It was incorporated as a city in 1906. The central city area was called Imabashi in the Middle Ages, later renamed Yoshida, and renamed Toyohashi in the early Meiji period. It has been a castle town since the Middle Ages, and especially in the late 16th century, when it became the castle town of Ikeda Terumasa, who had a fief of 150,000 koku, the town was developed and flourished as Yoshida-shuku on the Tokaido. Since the Meiji period, it has developed as a textile manufacturing city and a military city. Although it was damaged in World War II, it has been reconstructed remarkably after the war, and since Toyohashi Port was opened as an international trading port in 1972, a coastal industrial area has been formed around the port and has developed greatly. The transportation equipment, electrical equipment, and plastic industries are thriving, and it has become an industrial city with a manufacturing shipment value of over 1 trillion yen (2003), and is the core of the eastern Mikawa region. Blessed with a warm climate and water resources, vegetable cultivation is thriving, and the city has one of the highest gross agricultural production values in the country. The area is 261.86 km2 . Population: 376,665 (2010). →Related topics Toyohashi University of Technology Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
