Strawberries are grown early by building stone walls on the southern slope and using the residual heat of the stones. Kunozan in Shizuoka Prefecture is famous for strawberries, which were first shipped to the Tokyo market in 1907 (Meiji 40). Nowadays, concrete blocks are often used in combination with vinyl tunnels.
