The flowers are small and stalkless and appear in the leaf axils from August to October. The calyx is tubular, 1.5 mm long, and has four lobes with triangular lobes that are pointed at the tip. There are four very small, heart-shaped petals. There are four stamens attached to the calyx tube and one pistil. In sunny places, the whole plant may turn red.
