Lead(II) hydroxide carbonate has the chemical formula Pb 3 (Co 3 ) 2 (OH) 2 or 2PbCO 3 · Pb(OH) 2 . When sodium carbonate is added to an aqueous solution containing lead ions and heated, a white precipitate is obtained. Its specific gravity is 6.14, and it is insoluble in water but soluble in nitric acid. In industry, it is called white lead and has been used as a white pigment since ancient times, but is harmful.
