A former town in Takeno-gun, northern Kyoto Prefecture. Occupying the central part of the Oku-Tango Peninsula, rice and tulips are cultivated in the Takeno River basin. It belongs to the Tango textile industry region and has produced crepe fabric since ancient times. In April 2004, it merged with Mineyama-cho and Omiya-cho in Naka-gun, Amino-cho and Tango-cho in Takeno-gun, and Kumihama-cho in Kumano-gun to form Kyotango City. 80.38 km2 . 6,063 people (2003).
