A portable whetstone. It is a rectangular plate or pillar with a hole at one end for hanging. It has been excavated from Bronze Age and early Iron Age sites, such as the tomb at Yinxu, Anyang County, Henan Province, China, the box-shaped sarcophagus tomb at Chifeng, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and Toseong-ri, Junggang County, Jagang Province, and Buyon-dong, Gimhae-eup, Gimhae County, Gyeongsangnam-do, Korea. In Japan, it has been found as grave goods in 5th-century burial mounds, such as the Nekozuka Tomb in Nishikawachi-cho, Gojo City, Nara Prefecture. 携帯用の砥石。長方形の板状または方柱状をなし,一端に垂下用の孔を有する。中国河南省安陽県殷墟の墓や内モンゴル自治区赤峰の箱式石棺墓,朝鮮半島の慈江道中江郡土城里や慶尚南道金海郡金海邑府院洞などの,青銅器時代および初期鉄器時代の遺跡から出土しており,日本では奈良県五条市西河内町猫塚古墳など5世紀の古墳の副葬品に見いだされる。一方5世紀の朝鮮では,砥石本来の用途を離れて盛装時の装身具の一部としても使われた。
