Tokoroguchi - Tokoroguchi

Japanese: 所口 - ところぐち

A port town in Kashima County, Noto Province (Ishikawa Prefecture). It is the center of present-day Nanao City. It is also called Nanao. In 1581 (Tensho 9), Maeda Toshiie entered Nanao Castle, which was under the control of the Hatakeyama clan. The following year, he planned to build Komaruyama Castle in Tokoroguchi Village, which faces Nanao Bay, and to move the townspeople from the old Nanao castle town to manage the new castle town, but this plan was halted when they moved to Kanazawa Castle in 1583. However, due to the military and economic importance of the area, development of the town continued, and in the Genna period (1615-24), a magistrate was established and controlled security and distribution not only for Tokoroguchi Town but also for the entire Noto region.

能登国(石川県)鹿島郡の港町。現在の七尾市の中心部。七尾ともいう。1581年(天正9)畠山氏の七尾城に入った前田利家は，翌年七尾湾に面する所口村に小丸山城を計画，旧七尾城下の町人を移して新城下町を経営しようとしたが，83年金沢城へ移ったことから中止された。しかしこの地の軍事的･経済的重要性から町づくりは続けられ，元和期(1615‐24)には町奉行が置かれ所口町のほかに能登全域の治安と流通をも支配した。
