A general term for marine fish belonging to the family Podothecus in the order Scorpaeniformes, or one of these species. There are 24 species in the family Podothecus that inhabit the waters off Japan. The name "tokubire" comes from the fact that the male's dorsal and anal fins are particularly large. The English name is porcher. Tokubire Podothecus sachi is also called "sachi" or "wakamatsu." It is also called "hakkaku" because its cross section is close to an octagon. It is found on the Sea of Japan side in Toyama Bay, north of the east coast of the Korean Peninsula, and on the Pacific coast from Shiogama north to Hokkaido. Its long, slender body is covered with hard, bony plates that give it an angular appearance, a group of rather long whiskers on the underside of its long snout and around its mouth, and an extremely long second dorsal and anal fin.
