Takatomo Oda

Japanese: 小田高知 - おだたかとも

...A powerful clan in Hitachi Province in the Middle Ages. Its ancestor was Hatta Tomoie, the second son of Utsunomiya Munetsuna, a powerful clan in Shimotsuke. Tomoie's base was Hatta, which is now Shimodate City, Ibaraki Prefecture, one of his father Munetsuna's territories, and he called it Hatta Mushi Yadokoro. During the Jisho-Juei civil war, Tomoie was one of the first to follow Minamoto no Yoritomo, suppressed the various powers in Hitachi Province, and was given military command of the province (later the title of Shugo). He later moved his base to Oda, at the southern foot of Mount Tsukuba, now in Tsukuba City, and took the name of the Oda clan. He suppressed the Hitachi Heishi clan, which had been a major power in the region, and brought the southern half of Hitachi Province under his control.

...A military commander during the late Kamakura and Northern and Southern Court periods. Son of Sadamune. Originally named Kochi. At the end of the Kamakura period, Kochi lost his hereditary Hitachi Shugo position to the Hojo clan, and after the fall of the shogunate, he went to Kyoto, changed his name to Chikyu, and followed the Kenmu New Government. Later, he opposed the Satake clan, who had been appointed Hitachi Shugo by Ashikaga Takauji, and sided with the Southern Court. In 1338 (Engen 3, Ryokuo 1), he welcomed Kitabatake Chikafusa to Oda Castle and fought against Takanorifuyu, but in 1341 (Kokoku 2, Ryokuo 4), he surrendered to Michifuyu and joined the samurai side.
