Green stink bug - Aokusakamemushi (English spelling) green stink bug

It is an insect of the Hemiptera class of Insecta, family Hemiptera. It is found throughout Japan, Korea, China, and Taiwan. Its body length is 12-17 mm, and most are entirely green, but they have yellow markings that are divided into four genetic types based on how they spread. It is commonly found in plains and low mountain areas, and is known as a pest of various agricultural crops as it sucks the juices of a wide range of plants, causing particular damage to beans. It overwinters as an adult and emerges two to three times a year. A very similar species, the southern green stink bug N. viridula , is a pest that is widely distributed worldwide, but in Japan it is found only in the southern part of the country.

昆虫綱半翅(はんし)目カメムシ科の昆虫。日本全土、朝鮮、中国、台湾に分布。体長は12～17ミリメートル、全体緑色のものが多いが、黄色斑紋(はんもん)が現れ、その広がり方で四つの遺伝的な型に分けられている。平地から低山地に普通にみられ、広範な植物の汁を吸うので各種農作物の害虫として知られ、とくにマメ類に大害を与える。成虫で越冬し、年に2～3回発生する。よく似た種のミナミアオカメムシN. viridulaは世界に広く分布する害虫で、日本では南部に限り生息する。
