Former King of England. Son of George V. Served in World War I. Interested in social issues, fond of sports, and popular, he abdicated in 1936 due to marriage problems with his wife, a divorced American named Mrs. Simpson. He was given the title of Duke of Windsor and became Governor of the Bahamas in the West Indies (1940-1945).

もと英国王。ジョージ５世の子。第１次大戦に従軍。社会問題に関心深く，スポーツを好み，人望が厚かったが，1936年即位後まもなく離婚歴のある米国人シンプソン夫人との結婚問題から同年末退位。ウィンザー公Duke of Windsorの称号を受け，西インドのバハマ諸島総督（1940年―1945年）となる。
