Druze
French philosopher. Studied the history of philosophy at the University of Paris. He studied medieval scholasticism, British empiricism, Bergson, Nietzsche, and others, and wrote Difference and Repetition (1968), which established the concept of "pure difference" that overcomes the principle of identity in modern rationalist philosophy. He also published Spinoza and the Problem of Expression (1968), which determined the modern revival of Spinoza, and The Logic of Meaning (1969), which illuminates linguistic expression as a superficial world where meaning and meaninglessness play. He deepened his friendship with Foucault around 1968, and thereafter joined him in political activities. In 1970, he became a professor at the University of Paris. In 1972, he co-authored Anti-Oedipus with Guattari, whom he met after the May Revolution, thoroughly exposing the conspiracy between capitalism and psychoanalysis that constrains the individual. In 1980, he again co-authored with Guattari, A Thousand Plateaus, in which he created concepts such as rhizome, body without organs, nomadology, and war machines, while presenting a materialistic affirmation of desire that resists capitalist territorialization. At university, he lectured on film from the perspective of time and movement (Cinema 1 and 2, 1983 and 1985), and Foucault (1986), in which he mourned the death of Foucault, was the culmination of his Foucault theory. After retiring from university, he co-authored with Guattari again What is Philosophy? (1991), in which he positioned philosophy as the study of concept creation and affirmed the philosophy of "aging." He suffered from respiratory disease and committed suicide. His other works include Nietzsche and Philosophy, Proust and Signe, Masoch and Sade, Kafka, Francis Bacon, The Folds - Leibniz and the Baroque, and The Exhausted.
