The Schneider test is a test that measures the heart rate at rest, the difference in heart rate caused by changes in body position, the increase in heart rate immediately after exercise, and the time it takes for the heart rate to return to the resting value. This test is also called the Schneider test or point test. This can be evaluated using a point system, but the procedure for administering this method is as follows: (1) after five minutes of lying down and resting, the pulse rate and blood pressure are measured for one minute, (2) after the patient is made to stand quietly, the pulse rate and blood pressure are measured two minutes later in a standing position, (3) the patient is made to step up and down a 10.5-inch (about 27 cm) high step at a rate of once every three seconds, and this is repeated five times, (4) the pulse rate immediately after exercise is counted for 15 seconds while the patient is standing and the number of pulse rates is converted to the number of beats per minute and recorded, (5) the pulse rate is then counted for 15 seconds while the patient is standing and the time it takes to recover to the normal number while standing is recorded, and if the pulse has not recovered after two minutes, the number of beats while standing is counted and recorded, and the patient is scored according to the prescribed method based on the pulse rates for each step.
