Dong Yue Temple (English: Dong Yue Temple)

Japanese: 東岳廟 - とうがくびょう（英語表記）Dōng yuè miào

This Taoist temple enshrines the god of Mount Tai, one of the Five Mountains of China. Mount Tai has been considered a sacred mountain since ancient times, where the gods of heaven descended and where the souls of the dead gather. The god is called Taishan Fujun or Dongyue Dadi, and he attracted people's faith as a god who governs human longevity, life and death and judges the dead, leading to the construction of Dongyue temples all over the country. The most famous one is currently outside Chaoyangmen Gate in Beijing, and inside the temple are enshrined gods such as Dongyue Dadi, the 76 Commanders of Hell, and the god of wealth, and the festival that begins on March 15th is said to be extremely lively. 中国の五岳の一つ，東岳泰山の神をまつる道教寺院。泰山は古来天神が下り死者の霊魂が寄り集う霊山とされた。その神を泰山府君または東岳大帝といい，人間の寿夭（じゆよう）生死をつかさどり死者を裁く神として人々の信仰を集め，各地に東岳廟が建てられた。現在北京の朝陽門外に残っているのが最も有名で，廟内には東岳大帝や地獄の七十六司をはじめ財神などの神々がまつられて，3月15日からの祭礼は殷賑を極めたという。【麦谷邦夫】
