Year of death: 1704 Year of birth: Unknown. A leading sekkyo-bushi tayu in Edo during the early Edo period. Known as Tenma-bushi since before the Manji era (1658-61), he was the first to receive the title of sekkyo-bushi tayu on December 9, 1661 (Kanbun 1), and took the name Iwami no Jo Fujiwara Shigenobu. He has more than 20 original narration works. He retired around 1692 (Genroku 5). His pupils included Musashi Gondayu, Tenma Shigetayū, and Edo Magoshirō. In the Jōkyō and Genroku periods (1684-1704), in addition to the Tenma Hachidayū za, other names such as the Edo Magoshirō za, Azuma Shinshiro za, Tenma Shigetayū za, and Musashi Gondayū za could be seen in Edo sekkyo-bushi theater. After Yatayu's death, Tenman-bushi gradually declined, and in 1760 it was said that "Tenman-bushi is nowhere to be found in the corners of the world" (Fuzoku Dharani).
