Japanese: 天部 - てんぶ

This is the fourth of the four categories of Buddhist statues (Tathagata, Bodhisattva, Myo-o, and Ten), and is also called the various deities. These are ancient Indian deities that were translated as Ten and adopted into Buddhism as guardian deities. There are the noble deities and the warrior deities, the former of which includes the four heavenly kings such as Brahma, Indra, Kisshoten, Benzaiten, Gigeiten, Kishimojin (Haritaibo), and Daikokuten, while the latter includes the four heavenly kings such as Bishamonten (Tamonten), as well as Nio, Idaten, Jinsha-taisho, the eight heavenly kings, the twelve heavenly generals, and the twenty-eight heavenly kings, and the shapes of each deity are also diverse.

仏教の尊像の4区分 (如来，菩薩，明王，天) の第4番目にあたるもので，諸天部ともいう。インド古来の神が天と訳されて仏教に取入れられ，護法神となったもの。貴顕天部と武人天部とがあり，前者は梵天王，帝釈天，吉祥天，弁財天，伎芸天，鬼子母神 (訶梨帝母) ，大黒天，後者は毘沙門天 (多聞天) などの四天王や仁王，韋駄天，深沙大将，八部衆，十二神将，二十八部衆など多種類にわたり，形像も各尊像によって多様である。
