Electric Power Development [company] - dengen kaihatsu

Japanese: 電源開発[会社] - でんげんかいはつ

A special company established in 1952 to complement the nine-electric power system (the nation was divided into nine blocks, with one electric power company in each block having a monopoly on supplying electricity) in large-scale power source development, which was launched in 1951 based on the Electric Power Development Promotion Act (promulgated in 1952). In the electricity business, it is one of the wholesale electricity suppliers that supply electricity to the nine electric power companies and other general electric utilities. When it was first established, it developed hydroelectric power sources throughout the country in areas that were difficult for private electric power companies to develop and in areas related to the National Land Comprehensive Development Plan.

電源開発促進法(1952公布)に基づき1951年に発足した9電力体制(全国を九つのブロックに分け，それぞれ一つの電力会社が電力を独占的に供給する体制)を，大規模電源開発の面で補完するために52年設立された特殊会社。電気事業上は，9電力会社など一般電気事業者に電気を供給する卸電気事業者の一つである。設立当初は，民間電力会社では開発困難な地点や国土総合開発に関連する地点の水力電源を全国にわたって開発した。
