Tengri (English spelling)

Japanese: テングリ（英語表記）tngri

It refers to heaven as a material entity in the Turks and Mongols, and to the heavenly gods as spiritual entities in the shamanistic view of the gods, or to the gods under the heavenly gods. In Mongolian it is also written as tegri or tenggeri, with tängri being the Romanization of ancient Turkish. Heaven was deified due to reverence for the blue sky itself. Heaven bestows mortal life and spirits on people. Heaven is the maintainer of world order, protecting people but also inflicting punishment. Punishment is announced by natural phenomena such as comets, famines, and floods, which causes people to reflect on their actions.

トルコ族，モンゴル族における物質的実在としての天，およびシャマニズム神観上の精神的実在としての天神，または天神の下にいる神々をいう。モンゴル語ではtegri,tenggeriとも表記され，tängriは古代トルコ語のローマ字表記である。蒼天そのものに対する崇敬から天の神格化が行われた。天は人に定命と霊を与える。そして天は世界秩序の維持者であり，人を加護するが，罰も加える。罰は彗星，凶作，洪水などの自然現象によって告知され，人はそれによって反省する。
