Electrostatic precipitation

Electrostatic precipitation
Dust collection using the action of electricity is generally called electrostatic precipitator. In industry, electrostatic precipitators are widely used, which charge fine particles in gas with corona discharge and collect the fine particles on an electrode with the static electricity of a high-voltage electric field. The principle is that a flat conductive dust collecting electrode and a thin conductive discharge electrode are placed opposite each other, and the positive pole is connected to the collecting electrode and the negative pole to the discharge electrode. When a high DC voltage is applied, the electric field on the surface of the discharge electrode becomes strong. When gas is passed between these two electrodes, a corona discharge occurs near the surface of the discharge electrode, which fills most of the space between the two electrodes with negative charges. Particles that pass through this area are negatively charged and collect on the collecting electrode. This method was invented by FG Cotterell in 1906, so it is also called the Cotterell dust collector after his name. This device uses electrostatic force, so there is little gas pressure loss and has a high dust collection capacity, but the equipment costs are high. (→ Dust collector)
